What is the Difference between Low Power Mode and Low Power Enhanced Mode?
At present, the official website provides three types of firmware for S9, S9I, and S9J. Take the S9 automatic frequency miner as an example. The download link is as follows:
This is the original normal firmware.
This is an LPM firmware that reduces consumption but maintains the hash rate.
This is another LPM firmware that can reduce hash rate and consumption at the same time.
Normal Mode, Low Power Mode and Low Power Enhanced Mode
After upgrading the latest lower power firmware on the official website (the third firmware mentioned above), there will be two checkable options, Low Power Mode and Low Power Enhanced Mode, in the mine pool configuration interface, as shown in the following figure:
At this time, the miner has three modes to switch:
Normal Mode: uncheck both.
Low Power Mode: only check the first.
Low Power Enhancement Mode: only check the second one or check both at the same time.
Let's take S9 13.5T miners as an example to compare three mining modes:
1. In normal mode, the average computing power is 14.18T and the power consumption is 1459W (Power tester results).
2. In low power mode, the average hash rate is 13.88T and the power consumption is 1258W.
3. In the low power enhanced mode, the average hash rate is 9.87T and the power consumption is 914W.
How to choose a mining mode?
Choose wisely based on your own calculations, because the goal is to pursue the greatest return on investment.
Note: If the operation of the miner is unstable or the hashrate drops, please close LPM or flash back to the original firmware.
Bitmain Antminer S9 + Low Power Enhanced Mode = 85 J/TH
We happened to notice a new Bitmain firmware released early December 2018 that included the AsicBoost upgrade (Low Power Mode) plus a new Enhanced Low Power Mode which lowers the hashrate in support of a lower power usage per TH.
At first we installed across our S9s but since we could only measure the power usage across the MoneyPit mine and we run mixed miner types it was initially tough to confirm the magnitude of the gains so we decided to back out the firmware changes to and do a an isolated test prior to rolling out the changes.
We proceeded to hack together a a quick tester that could extract the stats of a single miner (
every minute) while also monitoring the power usage (
every second) and post stats to our Elasticsearch + Kibana monitoring cluster to get a clear picture of the efficiency differences between the various modes in the firmware
We then installed the firmware on a single S9 (14TH) w/ an APW3++ and ran the unit with each configuration on/off to measure the J/TH.

Асик майнеры Bitmain Antminer S9 после халвинга биткоин резко потеряли свою актуальность, т.к. практически весь доход от майнинга стал уходить на оплату счетов за электроэнергию даже при стоимости 0,03 USD за киловатт. Как итог сейчас можно купить такой асик майнер за 50-60 USD вместе с блоком питания. Если Вы тоже обладатель подобных устройств, то не спешите от них избавляться т.к еще можно получить от этого асика доход в 0,3 USD ежедневно при цене за электричество 0,03 USD.
Основная идея это перепрошить асик майнер на прошивку с меньшим хешрейтом, например 10TH/s вместо 14TH/s. И как это не странно, но Ваш доход от майнинга в таком случае не только не уменьшиться, а наоборот увеличиться примерно в 2-3 раза с 0,1 USD до 0,3 USD в сутки. Что сопоставимо с окупаемостью асика за 60 USD в течении 200 дней. Такой казус становится возможным из-за того, что с уменьшением хешрейта асик чипов, уменьшается энергопотребление и одновременно растет энергоэффективность.
Доступные хешрейты асиков Antminer S9 и их энергопотребление:
13,5 Th/s — 1300W (96 watt -TH/s)
16,1 TH/s — 1350 watt (85 watt -TH/s)
15 TH/s — 1250 watt (83 watt — TH/s)
13,5 TH/s — 1050 watt (78 watt — TH/s)
Чтобы достичь таких показателей необходимо установить BIOS с функцией Low Power Mode. Такой BIOS можно скачать например здесь.
Так же вы можете воспользоваться возможностью создать так называемый двойной асик Antminer S9, т.к. с энергопотреблением в 750W на один блок питания можно повесить сразу два асика в режиме максимального Low Power Mode. Причем текущие платы управления позволяют это сделать с минимальными доработками. Нужно только дополнительно впаять 9 резисторов ( 4.7 кОм 0402) и 3 разъема на 18 PIN, причем разъемы в данном случае необязательны т.к. шлейфы от плат с асик чипами можно впаять в плату управления напрямую.
Для работы асик майнера Bitmain Antminer S9 в DUAL режиме нужно установить соответствующую прошивку, которая сможет одновременно управлять сразу 6 платами вместо 3-х.

Difference between Low Power Mode and Low Power Enhanced Mode
There are three versions of firmware for the S9, S9I, and S9J models available on our website. Using the S9 auto-frequency firmware as an example:
- ANTMINER-S9-all-201711171757-autofreq-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar.gz: This is the original normal firmware.

Upon upgrading to the third firmware, the miner configuration page will show two setup options:
- Normal Mode: Neither box is checked.
- Low Power Mode: Only the first box is checked.
- Low Power Enhanced Mode: Only the second box is checked or both boxes are checked.
Using the ANTMINER 13.5T as an example, here are the statistics for each mode:
- Under Normal Mode, the average hash rate is 14.18T and the power consumption is 1459W.
- Under Low Power Mode, the average hash rate is 13.88T and the power consumption is 1258W.
- Under Low Power Enhanced Mode, the average hash rate is 9.87T and the power consumption is 914W.
