What can I do if I see the moonwalking error in STEPN?
I have just published a quite big article about the moonwalking error in the STEPN application. It is a really annoying message and the problem is that it can be caused by several things. That is why I recommend that you check the article below for all the tips and tricks worth knowing about the topic.
One of the surprising elements to me is that fact that the error can be caused by a mobile with poor quality. But, the truth is, it isn’t only poor telephones, but I have even seen a quite similar error on a brand new top model from Xiaomi (11T) that has trouble counting the steps continuously. Instead of counting all the time, it seems as if many cell phones count the steps, but only add them from time to time to the counter. The problem is that STEPN considers this as a chance of people trying to abuse the system of trick the system, and as a result, they just consider it to be moonwalking. And as a result, you do not receive any rewards for the activity.

Я многих людей доставал с вопросом, почему система так работает и по какой причине она выявляет обычную прогулку как чит? Даже с учётом стабильного GPS сигнала?
Режим moonwalk
С начала хочу уточнить зачем устранять проблему появления moonwalking?
Тут всё предельно просто — появление красного значка означает, что потраченная энергия в этом режиме не вернётся Вам в виде GST\GMT. Отсутствие moonwalking в процессе тренировки не срежет Ваш заработок. Заинтересовал?
Я читал несколько статей на эту тему и ни один из способов не решал проблему до конца, учитывая сколько запросов про то же самое в дискорде и телеге никто толком мне не отвечал на поставленный вопрос кроме момента:
если у вас Iphone то проблем не будет, если у вас android то проблемы будут и покупайте по лучше смартфон. По факту у владельцев Iphone действительно проблем в этом плане нет, но у меня Android Xiaomi. Я даже начал присматривать себе новый смартфон, но вовремя включил мозги. У меня создалось впечатление, что проблема носит массовый характер и интуитивное решение, которое я нашёл должно помочь многим сделать свои тренировки выгодными! Сразу скажу, что статью я начал писать когда полностью проверил метод несколько раз и точно убедился что он работает! На текущий момент moonwalk из часовой прогулки у меня включается от силы 2 раза. Поехали к разъяснениям!
Как работает GPS
GPS — это спутники, их много, но твоё устройство подключается только к 4-м одновременно где 3 формируют твою позицию по осям движения X,Y,Z 4ый отвечает за определение высоты. Каждый раз когда я спускался с горки, сигнал показывал стабильное подключение и ни разу не отваливался, а в черте города плясала скорость, уже тогда у меня создалось впечатление, что это не случайно.
Если задуматься, то направляясь в одном из направлений на плоскости ты всегда будешь виден для 2-х спутников с постоянным смещением, а для 1го из спутников твоё положение не изменится, хотя справедливо заметить что оно всё таки меняется, но не так "активно" как для 2х других координат, так что GPS может пренебрегать этим смещением и просто отдавать последнее значение, ведь GPS не идеальная и не суперточная система позиционирования.
Кроме того рядом с высотками GPS сигнал отклоняет координаты, и в городе определенно сигнал будет "терять силу" и "утаскивать координату локации".
Я сделал очень мощное допущение что античит система moonwalk построена на схеме, где если 1 из спутников не даёт изменения координат, то скорее всего система имеет право включаться, ну правда, а какие ещё у неё инструменты?
Для тех кто не осознал о чём речь — двигаемся с определенным смещениями в 10-15 градусов в лево и в право, не теряя вектора направления.
Движение змейкой
Как итог можно идти в пределах смещения в окне 1 метр и вы увидите насколько точными станут Ваши показания скорости. Я начал видеть без рывков точную скорость, но как я и отмечал ранее этот метод не идеален, нужно дополнять другими опциями.

There are few things as annoying as moonwalking in STEPN. I have been there myself, in fact, I have probably spent hours doing activities not registered by STEPN because I was moonwalking without realizing it before it was too late. But, what is causing this to happen? Is it a bug in the STEPN application or what is causing this error? In this article, I will give you a few tips regarding how you might be able to solve the problem.
The problem with moonwalking in STEPN is that it means that your movements are not registered properly and in order to combat people trying to trick the system, it automatically sets you into a moonwalking movement status. It doesn’t harm you in any way, except for the fact that you are moving within earning anything (nor do you spend any energy). But, if you have set aside 15 minutes each day for STEPN, then it is quite annoying to realize after 15 minutes that nothing has been registered at all, meaning that you need to start all over again.
So, what can be done to fix the moonwalking problem? What is causing it in the first place?
How to fix moonwalking in STEPN
1. Make sure to check the quality of your GPS signal and stay outside in open areas
Whenever you start STEPN and your activity, you will see a GPS signal in the upper right corner. This should show you three green bars, meaning that you have a brilliant GPS signal. If this is showing red bars, you are in trouble, and you will easily fall into the moonwalking error. It is also important to understand that STEPN is built for outdoor activity, meaning that you cannot use it to run within a shopping mall or in very crowded forests which might cause a poor GPS signal (if you are covered by lots of trees).
If you are insecure about whether or not you can run in the nearby forest or not, give it a try and compare it with running under the open sky. If you get the moonwalking error in both places, the error is elsewhere. If you only get the moonwalking error while running in the forest, run somewhere else!
A piece of advice from STEPN Is also to download the GPS Status & Toolbox app from Google Play Store or Apple Store. Go outside and check how many satellites are registered for you. If it is only 1 or 2, you might be in trouble. If there are more, everything should be fine.
2. Do you have a mobile data package with data available?
A few days ago when I was running I suddenly got error messages that I was moonwalking and that the network was unavailable. I didn’t understand anything at all, at first, but then I had a feeling that I didn’t have more data in my mobile package. And I was correct. And if you do not have any data left, you will not be able to report properly to the application, your movements will not be registered properly, and you will be stuck without rewards, and probably end up in moonwalking mode.
3. It might be your phone and its hardware that causes you to moonwalk in STEPN
This was an error cause that I didn’t even think of (before I suffered myself). First of all, make sure that you have given the STEPN application access to your GPS location and to register your movement. Most people give those permissions as they use STEPN for the first time so this isn’t normally a problem.
The next thing you can do is download an application called Pedometer. This is a simple tool for measuring your steps. Go for a two-minute walk and check that it is actually measuring your steps. If it doesn’t, something is not working well on your phone and you probably need a different/better device. But, even though the Pedometer application works properly, you might still struggle with STEPN as it is somewhat sensitive.
I have tested this on a Redmi 9A (Xiaomi) and the Pedometer app registered everything perfectly, the GPS signal was brilliant, I had data available, but I still got the moonwalking error. My final attempt then was to start the STEPN application once again and then to start my new activity. Now, this is what you have to check. Is the application measuring your steps constantly? Or does it say 10, and then it just stops and nothing is happening… and then maybe later it jumps to 50 (or it doesn’t increase at all)?
STEPN should constantly measure your steps. If it isn’t, something isn’t functioning as it should. STEPN needs to constantly measure your steps. If not, you will end up moonwalking. And if your phone doesn’t support constantly transmitting your steps to STEPN, you will get the moonwalking error. This is once again to counteract cheaters who try to take advantage of the system and the rewards.
What can you do to solve this? You most likely need to use a different phone. Sad to say it, but try with a different phone and see if it gives you better luck or not. It helped me!
4. Wait until the cooldown period is finished
Have you just transferred a sneaker from a different wallet to a new wallet? If so, there is a 24-hour cooldown period that you have to wait before you can use STEPN to earn GST tokens. Wait out the cooldown period, and you should be good to go!

How To Fix Moonwalking in StepN
While using StepN when you’re walking or running ,you might have noticed that says Moonwalking up top with a red dot next to it. That actually means that there’s something wrong that you need to fix in order to improve your GST earnings in the app.

There are only 3 causes of Moonwalking
- Bad GPS Signal
- Bad Phone Hardware
- Bad Area
Generally, Moonwalking in Stepn happens when you’re using a cheap android phone ,specifically an android phone with a MediaTek Processor so before you go through the steps below go check if you have a MediaTek CPU, if so there’s nothing you can do to fix it because companies intentionally ship bad GPS to lower costs of those android phones or you can get an iPhone or an Android with qualcomm CPU instead to avoid moonwalking in stepn.
We will go through these issues and explain them one by one so you can understand where this Moonwalking problem is coming from and how to avoid it.

Bad GPS Signal
To know if you have a bad GPS signal or not you have 2 steps to go through
First, check if your signal is full and green, most of the first countries users don’t have worry about this so if that’s the case move on to the next step.
Second, you need to:
- Download the app GPS Status & Toolbox from the app Store or play store.
- Make sure you’re outside
- Check how many satelites there are
If you see multiple Satelites that means your GPS Signal is fine, if you only see 1 or 2 that means there’s a problem with your GPS Signal.
Bad Phone Hardware
In some cases your phone might actually be the problem. So the way StepN works it counts your Steps through the step tracking app on your phone but some of the Step tracking apps only updates the counter every couple of minutes not every step and unfortunatly for you this makes the StepN anti cheating system think that you’re cheating and punishes you by not rewarding you with GST (Moonwalking).
Next time you go for a walk notice if whenever it says moonwalking is the steps counter updating constantly or not? if it is your phone is fine and there’s another problem otherwise the only choice you got is change phone.
If you can’t get another phone, the only solution is to stop walking when it says moonwalking just so the steps counter catches up then start walking again.
PS: Bad phone hardware is most common on cheap andoird phones.
Bad Area
If you’re walking inside a house or in a mall or under trees StepN will not work and you will certainly get the moonwalking error.
Make sure you’re walking/running outside with nothing above you so the GPS signal is good and that way you’ll earn the most of GST.
