TFT – Champion Pool Size & Probabilities
There is a fixed champion pool size for each tier which is shared among all players:
- Tier 1: 39
- Tier 2: 26
- Tier 3: 21
- Tier 4: 13
- Tier 5: 10
These numbers represent the total copies of tier X champions that exist in the store, not the unique champions. For example, there are 39 copies of each tier 1 champion, etc.
Note: If a player is defeated or if some units are sold, the champions go back into the common pool.
You must reach at least level 5 to find tier 4 champions and level 6 for tier 5 ones. Considering the data above, upgrading a tier 4 or 5 unit to three stars is quite difficult, particularly the latter as you need nine out of the ten copies available for each champion.

Rolling for Teamfight Tactics champions is a core gameplay system that ensures players can potentially hit the units they want from the shop at certain levels.
Spending your resources on developing units and taking control of the board is sometimes the best course of action. But deciding when to level and when to roll isn’t as straightforward. Without the numbers, it’s pure guesswork. Players typically roll at Stages 3-2, 4-1, and 5-1 with a wide amount of variety built into that standard based on win/loss streaks, economy, and power levels of a TFT lobby.
How many TFT champions are in Set 9?
With every set release, Riot Games puts out a chart detailing everything we need to know about champion drop rates by tier and level. There are a total of 60 champions in TFT Set Nine.
- Tier one: 13 champions with 29 of each in the pool
- Tier two: 13 champions with 22 of each in the pool
- Tier three: 13 champions with 18 of each in the pool
- Tier four: 12 champions with 12 of each in the pool
- Tier five: Eight champions with 10 of each in the pool
The number of TFT champions within a pool is important when rerolling. Players attempting to reroll a four-cost unit, for example, must grab nine out of the 12 that are in the pool to successfully craft a three-star tier-four champion.
What are TFT rolling odds based on the number of champions?
Rolling odds of a champion showing up in the TFT shop are based on the number of champions within a set. The chart below helps players determine when to level up and when to roll down for a stronger board. Set Nine increased the XP needed to hit levels six to nine but it didn’t change the actual rolling odds once on that level.

When to level up in TFT Set 9
In conjunction with the TFT rolling chance chart, each set has a meta that determines the most opportune times to level up and roll down for key units that can make up a player’s end-game comp.
Here is a standard level-up guide for TFT Set Nine:
- Level Four: Stage 2-1
- Level Five: Stage 2-5 or Stage 2-3 if seeking three-cost champions after the carousel
- Level Six: Stage 3-2
- Level Seven: Stage 4-1 or 4-2
- Level Eight: Stage 4-5 or Stage 5-1

For example, there will be many more tier-one units in the pool compared to tier-five units. If you are looking for an exact breakdown, here are how many units are in the pool for Set 9 of TFT:

What Are The Rolling Chances In Teamfight Tactics
As we have stated previously, the TFT unit pool is shared between all players. That means if one player takes a single copy of a Tier Five unit in TFT, there are only 9 copies of that Unit left in the pool. The best time to roll for those champions will depend on your level. Your level will determine your rolling odds for units in TFT. Here is what the rolling odds look like in TFT right now:

In most games, it will be impossible to get to level 10 or 11 so focus on levels 1-9 for now. As you can see, the higher the level, the better your odds to get higher-tier units while lower-tier units’ odds will decrease. If you want to roll your shop for a Tier 5 unit, waiting until Level 9 is your best bet. But if you want to roll for Tier 2 units, you should do so at Level 6 for the best odds. Knowing when to roll for units is essential in TFT.

The Teamfight Tactics gameplay relies on the player creating a unique army of champions with similar traits. The way to create that army is not simple as it sounds since it takes a lot of thinking and planning. Of course, the best thing would be to have amazing synergy among your champions, origins, and classes and the best thing that can happen is for all of your champions to be on level three. But that is a problem and if you aren’t playing Yordles that is unlikely to happen since 4* and 5* champions tend to be impossible to level up due to their high cost and fewer units in the champion pool itself.
Each champion is unique. They can have different abilities, stats, and compatible items.
TFT champions are valued at between 1 and 5 gold per champion. As their price increases, their base strength also rises and their abilities have a greater impact on the game.

The Pool is an area where champions can meet up before being taken into battle by the Little Legends. Well at least it is a nice way of putting it, but basically, it is just a pre-programmed scheme of how many champions are going to be dropped on each level the player finds himself. Every player buys champions from the Pool. The Pool only has a certain number of these champions, as can clearly be seen in the table. They differ in number depending on their value. Simply put, there are more 1 gold champions than 5 gold champions in Pool. This tends to make sense since the lower costing units are weaker and for that reason, they are more available to the players.

Explanation for the champion pool
It basically means that there are 29 Singeds within the Pool. Singed is one gold champion. If you look at the chart you will see that the best opportunity to buy here is in level two. The draw chance for Singed or any other one-gold champion is gradually decreasing, but the draw chance to buy from a two- or three-star champion is increasing.
This example can be used for any champion, simply use the chart to navigate. I guarantee you won’t need that chart in no time!
This is important as your goal is to get your entire army to lvl 3. It will be difficult if everyone plays the same strategy. There won’t be enough champions to give you all the champions you need to be at a 3-star level. This is why it’s important to look at your opponents’ builds before you start each game. You can do this by simply clicking on the icon of the Little Legend of your opponent. This won’t always work because many traits have overlapping champions. Caitlyn, for example, is vital in both Sniper and Enforcer traits. Enforcers may be built by your opponent, even though you may be able to build Snipers. While you will always have some overlap champions, try to limit it as much as possible. If you don’t there is a good chance that you are going to lose a lot of fights against the players who are focused on building the strategy that isn’t used that much in that particular game.
It’s better to have 8 units, each unit being 3-star, rather than a few 2-star champions with the powerful origin and class.
